The Creative Process
The objective was to create six unique sticker designs that have meaning, mood, or make people think. They should be of professional quality and be my own unique intellectual property.
I started by making a list of things that interest me. Then, I started adding items on the list together to get interesting combinations. For example, turtles and watermelons were both on the list and have similar attributes, so I decided to combine them.
Once I had narrowed down the ideas, I started to sketch. I did many simple sketches that toyed with variations of the stickers. Through those sketches, I narrowed it down even further. Which stickers were too simple or complex for the objective?
There were several obstacles to overcome while designing the stickers. One of my original ideas was a bird made of kiwi (if you can’t tell, I really like fruit). However, as I started designing it, it started to look less and less like anything resembling a bird or a kiwi. So I quickly scrapped it and started a new idea: a vase of yellow daisies.
However, the feedback I later received was not too complimentary of the daisies. They were too simple with no message. After looking at them differently, I realized that their center looked a bit like a wide-open mouth. I decided to lean into that to make singing daisies, which are more interesting and thought-provoking.
Additionally, I was told that the dumplings weren’t recognizable enough. I went back to my sketchbook, looked at some inspiration pictures, and completely redid them.
While there were many different stages and iterations of my designs, they turned out beautifully. They each provoke thoughts or feelings in unique ways. They are all designed with professional-level quality and organization.
In conclusion, my sticker designs have successfully achieved the objectives of the assignment. The fusion of diverse elements and the transformation of ideas during the design process resulted in a diverse collection demonstrating creativity and professional quality.
